(I switched up my routine in order to compete in the 2012 Eau Claire Marathon. I incorporated more running, took some yoga classes, and even got my Zumba on!)

Working out truly can be fun! However, it is very easy to become discouraged when you’re not seeing immediate results on the scale. There are several ways to bring about positive change: Switching up your workout is great for your body as well as for your mind. When you start a new workout program, it is like teaching your muscles a new classroom subject. Over time your body gets used to this routine, causing your workout to become somewhat less effective. Enter! New instructor!! Adding or alternating routines results in adaptations that will continue to fine tune your body. Of equal importance, you will enjoy trying something different. Group classes can also be a great addition. Trying different forms of cardio (biking, elliptical, rowing, running, walking, etc.), hiring a personal trainer, or buying a workout video are also great ways of changing up your exercise routine. Having fun, while keeping your body active and healthy, is vital! If you have fun while you’re working out, you optimize your opportunity to continue living a healthy lifestyle. Take large steps or small steps….but always work toward personal improvement!
